AutoCAD Editor

Kenney Aerial Mapping

Environmental Services industry

September 2005January 2009 (3 years 5 months)

In addition to work as an aerial photographer and orthophoto technician with Kenney Aerial Mapping, also worked as an AutoCAD editor. Used AutoCAD Land Desktop (LD) and AutoCAD Map to prepare survey maps for submission to the client. In LD, separated the 3D layers into one digital terrain model (DTM) file and the 2D layers into a second plan file. Then generated a complete digital terrain model (DTM) drawing. From that drawing, created contours and wrote those to a separate drawing file. In AutoCAD Map, combined plan drawings with contour drawings, and edited the map to meet client requirements. Deliverables were normally two digital drawings, the finished map drawing and the finished DTM drawing, burned to a CD. In most instances, KAM also delivered a plotted hard copy of the map. If an orthophoto had been requested by the client, also burned the tiff and world file (twf) to the CD. Compiled and edited a detailed operating procedure for this job.

Orthophoto Imaging Technician

Environmental Services industry

October 2003January 2009 (5 years 4 months)

In addition to my duties as an aerial photographer and AutoCAD editor, also worked as an orthophoto imaging technician. Used Socet Set software to create orthophotos of our aerial survey photo sites. Used digital terrain model data from compiled drawings to manipulate digitized photos into geographically correct images so that features in a AutoCAD drawing matched exactly features in the orthophoto. Created orthophotos not only from single photos but also from multi-model, multi-flightline photo sequences. Also, became adept at auto-extraction and interactive extraction where DTM data may not have been available from compiled images and needed to be generated from photo stereomodels in Socet Set. Compiled and edited a detailed operating procedure for this job.

Aerial Photographer

Kenney Aerial Mapping

Environmental Services industry

August 2003January 2009 (5 years 6 months)

Planned and executed aerial survey photo missions in Nevada, California, Arizona, and Utah. Most work was done over the Las Vegas Valley in class B airspace in a Cessna 206 Stationair with Zeiss 15/23 RMK A aerial survey camera bolted to the floor of the plane. Frame size 9-in by 9-in. Focal length is six inches. Film reel length is 270 feet. Job required photographic skills and familiarity with the public land survey system to locate remote parcels for photography. Required close coordination between the pilot and the photographer to ensure that the correct site was targeted and that the series of photos began and ended as planned at the correct altitude. Good planning and precision were required for work in the Las Vegas Class B airspace, which is one of the busiest in the country. Flight crew was often only permitted a single pass over a site. Had a reputation with McCarran air traffic controllers (ATC) as the most reliable and fastest aerial photo team operating in this area. Compiled and edited a detailed operating procedure for this job.

Compiler

Kenney Aerial Mapping

Environmental Services industry

January 2003October 2003 (10 months)

When initially hired into Kenney Aerial Mapping, was brought in as a compiler. Drew maps in AutoCAD from diapositive images projected in 3D on a Zeiss P3 stereoplotter. Normally, it would take two to three years for a compiler to reach production speed in this field. I delivered first production-speed project within eight months of starting. Was later advanced to the position of aerial photographer. Was able to bring significant awareness of photo quality requirements from work as a compiler.

GIS Tech Temp

Las Vegas Valley Water District

Government Agency; Utilities industry

September 1999August 2001 (2 years)

Using ArcInfo, assisted with right-of-way process that included identification and summarization of parcels affected by LVVWD projects. Identified parcels and cadastral information via GIS and associated databases in LVVWD and Clark County. Digitized right-of-way boundaries and manipulated spatial data and attributes via GIS to prepare status maps and reports. Example: Jean-Primm ROW corridor. Periodically created pressure zone maps by digitizing changes to existing pressure zone maps. Created AML programs aimed at increasing productivity. Created one AML that read public land survey system property descriptions and then automatically located the property on a map and drew the boundaries of that property to a coverage. Wrote a companion detailed operating procedure entitled 'Mapping Parcels with the Cadastral Parcel Approximator and AutoCAD Map.' Prior to creating this application, digitized subject parcels. Co-chaired the LVVWD Vacations Process Team whose mission was to deconstruct and reconstruct the right-of-way vacation review process as part of the department's Legal Document Management System (LDMS). Deliverables were a reprogrammed computer application and a companion procedures manual. I compiled and edited the manual using input from each of the affected district divisions. Near the end of tenure in LVVWD Resources, taught myself ArcGIS. Using that application, created a series of maps for the Meter Operations Supervisor. Worked primarily with this supervisor to identify and meet his requirements. Role was to do a needs assessment, design the project in ArcGIS, acquire needed data from the databases, manipulate it into the required form, and digitize the desired boundaries as needed. While working, attended CCSN in pursuit of two of four Associate's degrees, all of which I attained.
